When Is Christmas?

Christmas dates for upcoming years

Christmas Day falls on December 25 each year in the Gregorian calendar. The weekday changes from year to year, which can help when you are planning time off, travel, or a family gathering.

How many days is Christmas?

Christmas Day is one calendar date, December 25, in the Gregorian calendar. In everyday conversation, “Christmas” can also mean a wider holiday season, and some Christian traditions use a different calendar date.

Is Christmas always on December 25?

Many countries and Christian communities observe Christmas Day on December 25. Some Christian traditions follow different liturgical calendars and may celebrate on a different civil-calendar date. Local observances can therefore vary.

Christmas Eve is December 24 in the same calendar tradition. The main countdown on this page uses the date and timezone on your device to show the time remaining to December 25.

When should I start a Christmas countdown?

There is no required start date. Some people begin on December 1 with a calendar; others start when they decorate, plan a trip, or simply want to check how many days remain. Our 25-day countdown calendar starts on December 1, while the live clock is available year-round.
